Schlüter-DITRA Tile Installation Overview:

Tile installation with Schlüter-DITRA is now easier due to air release vents, which make filling cavities quicker with fewer trowel passes. Pre-formed grooves enable straight, precise cutting, and enhanced undercuts ensure stronger tile anchoring to the membrane.

Application & Function:
Schlüter-DITRA is a polypropylene membrane featuring EasyCut gridlines and square, dovetailed EasyFill recesses, with an anchoring fleece on the underside. It provides waterproofing, vapor pressure equalization, and uncoupling for problematic substrates when used with tile coverings. The substrate must be level and load-bearing, and DITRA is installed in a thin-bed tile adhesive with a 4 x 4 mm notched trowel. The anchoring fleece fully embeds into the adhesive, ensuring a secure bond.
Tiles are installed directly over DITRA using the thin-bed method, with the adhesive bonding to the membrane’s square recesses.

Uncoupling:
Schlüter-DITRA uncouples the tile covering from the substrate, neutralising stress from substrate deformations and bridging tension cracks to protect the tile surface.

Waterproofing:
The membrane is waterproof and allows for a high water vapour diffusion seal. With properly installed joints and sealed transitions, DITRA creates a certified bonded waterproofing assembly for tile coverings. It complies with waterproofing standards (18531-5 and 18534) in Germany and is suitable for water exposure classes W0-I to W3-I. System-certified tile adhesives must be used in areas requiring technical approval (abP).

Vapour Pressure Equalization:
Schlüter-DITRA’s air channels allow for vapour pressure equalisation in case of moisture impact from below.

Load Distribution:
Tiles installed over DITRA should be at least 5 x 5 cm in size and 5.5 mm thick. The adhesive-filled recesses transfer mechanical stresses directly to the substrate, making the tile coverings durable for high-traffic or high-load areas. Tiles in these areas must be thick enough to handle the load, and solid embedding in the adhesive is essential.

Bonded Assembly:
Schlüter-DITRA forms a strong bond between the tile assembly and the substrate through its fleece fabric bond in the thin-set mortar and mechanical anchoring in the dovetailed recesses. It is suitable for wall and floor installations, with optional wall plugs for additional anchoring if needed.
